Behind the Scenes: The Cartnite Bracelet

For the last 7 years, millions of stories of survival and victory crowns have been captured by Fortnite gamers. There is something about the thrill of landing in Tilted Towers, discovering magic chests, and scavenging weapons that keeps the game alive. With every second counting, there is no time for mistakes. Survive and advance.

To celebrate those victories, remember those battles, and immortalize those memories, we take you behind the scenes into the creation of the Cartnite Bracelet. Made by the formidable player JalonisDead, this bracelet is a wearable symbol of virtual conquest and gaming prowess.

Designing the Fortnite Bracelet

The charms of the bracelet stems from the essential elements of the game. Beginning with the Gold Scar, the holy grail of weapons. Only the lucky secure this weapon. Next, we move to old reliable, the Blue Pump Shotgun. While short range and slow to fire, this beast does damage. Third, we have the Purple Tactical SMG, gone but not forgotten. Fourth, the mini potion (“grab the minis”), a necessity for shield revival. Lastly, the med kit. Not as glorified as the minis but a staple for survival.

The Production Process

Digital Artwork

For 2D enamel bracelets, the first step is confirming the colored artwork. The colored artwork shows the entire bracelet structure of the metal borders and links. It is a complete digital view of the bracelet.

Cutting and Polishing the Metal

After confirming the sizing and layout, the next step is to cut the metal. Using laser cutting machines and large steel sheets, the metal is cut. After that, the pendants are placed on sheets for polishing by machine (see example below)

Proofing

After proofing, we link one bracelet to ensure the sizing and shape is correct. This allows us to make changes if necessary.

Corrosion

Corrosion is the process of engraving the design into the metal. The corrosion process is done by high intensity lasers. The artwork below is used for our corrosion software. The black parts are where the design will be engraved (for enamel) and the silver parts represent the shiny metal.

Enamel

Enamel is the painting process for metal. The color scale we use for mixing and matching paints is the pantone color guide. Like all our projects, we hand paint all our enamel using little plastic cones like we are baking a cake (see video below!). In order to ensure colors don’t mix, we must complete 1 color at a time, let it bake in the oven, and repeat.

Final Product

After enameling both sides, we link, weld, and wash each piece. Check out below the finished product!

Conclusion

While Victory Crowns are temporary, the memories and stories last a lifetime. Made by us for Jalonisdead, we bring you the Cartnite Bracelet, a tangible reminder of the triumphs, the challenges, and the camaraderie forged on the virtual battlefield.
